Design Overview
The White Bay Power Station is a heritage-listed landmark located in Rozelle that used to burn coal to supply Sydney transport with electricity. To improve the site, new facilities and other features can be added to increase aesthetic appearance, give the building a new sustainable purpose, positively contribute to the environment, and allow the community to participate in social and recreational activities. To achieve this, modified indoor pools, a gym and a café could be added to the inside of the building, while the outside could be replaced with lots of greenery and some water features.
The natural environment surrounding the building will require few changes. New soil will need to be added to areas where grass, trees and other native plants will be added. Inside the building, most structures and objects will be cleared to allow the interior facilities to be added. Some built structures surrounding the building will also need to be cleared or renovated so that more natural features can be added, and so that the overall appearance can be improved. This site uses many native plants and other materials that positively contribute to the environment. The design also maintains the building's original structure and gives it a new purpose for future generations. The designed building would continue to sustainably generate renewable energy whilst providing the community with social and recreational facilities. |
